TOPIC: IRA SUSPECTS ARRESTED

POLICE investigating the latest IRA bombings arrested four suspects after a series of armed raids yesterday.  An elderly man and two other people were grabbed in one dawn swoop on a Pounds 500,000 house in posh Chelsea, West London.

They were being questioned at a London police station last night.  Another man was arrested in a raid on a four-storey house in nearby Earl's Court.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: ``Anti-terrorist officers arrested a number of people in connection with recent terrorist incidents including The Boltons bombing, the Brompton Cemetery bomb and the Hammersmith Bridge bomb.''

Last night the IRA confirmed it planted the Hammersmith bomb, which failed to go off.

Neighbour Doreen Sullivan, 63, said of the elderly man arrested in Chelsea: ``He's got an Irish accent but I can't believe he'd be tied up with the IRA.''
